What's behind our water filter ratings

Contaminant removal

A quality whole house water filter should remove over 97% of chlorine as well as a wide range of other dangerous contaminants such as lead, mercury, arsenic, pharmaceuticals, herbicides, pesticides, VOCs, industrial solvents and much more.

Filter replacements

While the main filtration media of a whole house system only needs to be replaced every 5-10 years, depending on the system, certain additional filters must be replaced more often. For example, pre-filters must be replaced every 2-3 months, post-filters every 6-12 months and...

Flow rate

The flow rate is an indicator of how fast the filtration process happens. If you have normal taps and showers, your water filter should have a flow rate of at least 7 GPM. If you have a walk-in shower with numerous body sprays, you would probably need a system with minimum 15 GPM.

Complementary systems

If your water is too hard, consider getting a filter+softener combo. We recommend getting a salt-free water softener as it better for the environment and it doesn't require any back-flushing. A water softener will protect your fixtures and appliances from scale buildup.

Long term savings

While the initial investment is considerable, in the long run, whole house filters help you save money, as you no longer need to buy bottled water or change dozens of cartridges, the way that small water filters like pitches, faucet or reverse osmosis require.
